E.O. Wilson on the Importance of Preserving the Southeast
Thursday, July 3
Description:
Join renowned entomologist and native Alabamian Dr. E. O. Wilson discussing the diversity and value of Hurricane Creek, Alabama, where he conducted his post-graduate work in the 1950s. According to Hurricane Creekkeeper John Wathen, Dr. Wilson documented a species of ant "Leptothorax tuscaloosae" (yep, named in honor of the home of the University of Alabama). As far as we know this is the only location for this species. John Wathen says, "Who knows or will know if we do not preserve and protect Hurricane Creek?"
